My name is Shad.
I am looking for a forever home with someone to love me and with someone I can love
in return. I am an older neutered male Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever/possibly
Mastiff mix. I was a beloved companion dog for my maste
r and we enjoyed working
around the yard or tinkering together with projects in the garage. Sadly, my master
passed away a few years ago and his wife has passed now, too. I have been living with
their son, but he is now having health issues that forced him to move out of the house
we shared together and into an apartment. The rental agreement won’t permit large
dogs. It is important to my family that I am not put down just because I can’t make the
move with my current master.
I still have a lot of love to give but I need to find a new home very soon. The people who
are buying our house are dog lovers but already have two big dogs. They have said that
I can live with them as a foster dog until I find a new home. They want to make sure I
have a good family and will be taken care of, as I deserve. I have tested negative for
heartworm and take Heartgard. My vaccinations are current and my vet says I am in
good shape (though I could lose a couple pounds with some exercise).
Just because I am a more experienced dog, don’t be fooled. I still have a strong inner puppy drive. I am friendly and love to run around the yard for exercise and playtime. But unlike a puppy, I understand and need quiet time and I’m not going to place constant demands on you for your time and attention. I have always spent most of my time outside. I am an attentive watchdog and will announce the arrival of strangers. I am a smart boy and I listen. Despite that saying, older dogs can indeed learn new tricks, so I am open to new living arrangements. I am used to having some space to run. Because I am a big boy, I might be a little clumsy in small quarters inside a house, so a new home with a yard would be great. I might also need some practice on remembering my housebreaking routines. If you or someone you know might be interested in meeting me, I sure would like to find a new friend to love me for the rest of my life. I will be very grateful and promise I’ll love you back in return.
